It’s almost fitting that at the time that I’m launching my first post on Blogstakes, Time Magazine should pronounce that the 2006 “Person of the Year” is no other than “Me” and “You”.
For those of us who have been following the development of Web 2.0 (I wish someone would come up with a new handle for this) as it moves from an overgrown fun room into a serious media contender, this may be an interesting read but not earth shattering.
At the same time, Comscore Media Metrix conducted an analysis of the percentage of the online population that reads blogs. They covered Canada, France, Spain, the US, the Netherlands, the UK, Italy and Germany. Guess what? Canada ranks FIRST in terms of the percentage blog readers among us.
So is Web 2.0 more than a massive social experiment. I don’t know. But I think it’s an exciting opportunity to build a new kind of understanding and engage in vast aray of new covnersations.
So here’s to you. Everyone who has in some form or another helped to bring together the contributions of millions of people and helped make them matter.
